Last weekend was an emotional two days for Eric Prydz fans in Los Angeles.
Many of you heard the touching announcement that Prydz planned to throw an exclusive show for one of his biggest fans, James Lillo, who was suffering from stage four cancer. The show was to be held in an effort to raise money for the charity of the fan’s choosing, the Cancer Research Institute.
Only a few days later, however, the heartbreaking news broke that James had passed away. Deeply saddened by the news and encouraged by the rest of the dance music community, Prydz decided to put on two shows in honor of his fan—with James’ family’s permission, of course. Those that made it to Sound Nightclub that weekend experienced a rare type of Prydz performance, one that took spectators on a journey of classic, melodic Pryda featuring some massive fan favorites that seldom see the light of day. The shows were raw and heartwrenching, and they were Prydz at his best.
That following Thursday afternoon, during the release of his seventeenth episode of Epic Radio, Prydz made another announcement: He would be dedicating a brand-new track (virtually produced days before the show) to James, and releasing it shortly after. The track is called “Lillo,” and all of the proceeds will be donated to the the Cancer Research Institute. It’s times like these where the dance music community shines brightest; when a track so stunningly beautiful rises from the ashes of tragedy, and reminds us how precious life is.
The “Lillo” segment begins around the 53-minute mark of Epic Radio 017 above. Listen now, and try not to tear up.
