Projections—Mahalo
Projections is an ongoing DJ mix series dedicated to showcasing Discovery Project alumni who continue to push boundaries with their music.
Mahalo took full advantage of the Miami hype this year by releasing a stream of his breezy, liquid house music for those impossibly chill poolside moments during MMW. While it may have been a rather warm welcome to the spring season, we can’t help but yearn for the unforgettable summer the fast-rising producer is most certainly going to soundtrack.
For now, though, we have the Balearic grooves of “Waves,” the upfront future vibes and powerful vocals on “WTFYWF,” and the song that best exemplifies Mahalo’s trademark sound, “Current Mood”—all of which point to a landmark year for the L.A.-based producer. He is clearly busy of late, yet he took the time to drop a smooth and sexy mix on us. Keep an eye on that track list, because there are even more soulful Mahalo gems hidden inside.
But first, Mahalo shares some words:
The last year has been really something else for me. I’d like to start off by thanking Insomniac and the Discovery Project for helping me kick the year off with a bang at Countdown. Winning the Discovery Project has definitely inspired me to try and hit this year even harder than last.
So far, I’ve been keeping busy with some new releases over the last month on Toolroom, Sony Music, and Perfect Havoc—who put out my new single, “Current Mood” with Cat Lewis. I’ve also been working on some more in-depth vocal projects and remixes for a ton of great artists that I’m excited to share over the next several months. I’ve included few of the new ones I’ve been putting together in this mix for the Projections series. For this mix, I wanted to showcase some of the tunes I’ve been into lately, while also taking the listeners on a bit of a journey through the different sides of house music. I start it off a bit in-your-face but slowly start to peel back the energy into a more emotive club sound.
