Catchment Handles Contemporary House With Classic Style on VIP Mix of “You Got It”

The vibe-fueled UK duo known as Catchment are returning once again, this time with a hot tune called “You Got It” for Love & Other. The single sees them taking a slight step toward a bigger room bounce than previous releases. And while there is definite excitement around a funkier, more primetime tune from these two, they don’t stray too far on the VIP mix we’re offering up today.

On this take, Catchment have rolled out with a classic house beat, shuffled just enough to put a spring in the rhythm. The same deep and funky bassline appears here, as do the stellar vocals from the original. Yet for the VIP, things give a modest nod to the epic R&B-leaning house music of the mid to late ‘90s. Led by hats and claps, and carried on builds and drops that land with waves of foamy white hiss, Catchment has taken that heyday formula and made it completely contemporary.

Reworked with care and skill, the VIP mix stays very close to the original while seeming to come from an entirely fresh direction. This is clearly music to make bodies move, and the dynamic shifts the energy around, keeping every second electric and active. This is an excellent complement to the original track, and both are the kind of solid production we’re used to seeing from these talents.
