There’s a quirky end of house music, trailblazed by the likes of Claude VonStroke, which draws on all the best parts of techno and bass music. It keeps the grooves heavy—while embellishing with a sexy dose of bottom-end—and it’s never afraid to get a little weird. Here, Brazilian newcomer Ciszak serves us up an example of exactly why this mutant sound works so well.

“I’m Down” packages just the right combination of bass rumbles, techno grit, and straight-up fun, its vocal sample ensuring that things are never in danger of getting too serious. It’s one of two cuts on his latest EP of the same name, brought to us by the new Strangelove label, with Ciszak’s new record emphasized as a sign of things to come for the label.

“I really admire Timbaland’s productions—tracks from Missy Elliott, ‘Sexy Back’ from Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado, etc.,” he tells Insomniac. “I usually like to draw from a lot of different places in my music. On this one, I tried to bring a bit of Timbaland inspiration on the drums—along with my own unique sound—with just the right touch of weird. It’s been a big one in all my sets. One thing I can say is, I am a big fan of ‘90s hip-hop.”

Available April 7 via Strangelove.
