It can be many things, seen from various places and points of view. In honor of 2014, here’s EDC through 14 different perspectives:

Entering the Speedway

You’re fresh. You’re ready. And your mascara is already running from the tears of utter joy you feel at arriving, passing through the gates, and seeing EDC suddenly unfold before you.

Riding the Freak Out

Ferris wheel, schmerris wheel. Sure, they’re great—you can see the whole venue and have a peaceful moment with your besties—but if getting tossed, twirled and swung around is more your style, you gotta get your Freak on.

As a security guard in front of the stage

This might be the coolest gig for a security guard. You’ve got the DJ and the pyro behind you. The sound is vibrating through you. And get to see the most excited people in the world lose their minds right in front of you. Plus, this guy.

From the octocopter

You may have seen these camera “drones” flying around. Don’t freak; it’s not the NSA keeping tabs on you. It’s just a remote control aerial camera rig getting awesome footage of all your beautiful faces. Ok, you can freak if you want to.

As the wedding minister

To the 70 or so couples getting hitched this weekend, the Elvis lookalike asks, “Do you promise to rave your way right on through your marriage, to always keep the spirit of EDC in your heart, to always be each others’ teddy bear, and never go to bed without giving each other a hunka-hunka burning love?” We do.

Following the boombox art car

It’s one of several art cars roaming the Speedway, but this one has the meta-throwback angle of a DJ spinning inside a tape deck. Not sure if the bass and treble work, but the cassette door totally opens.

As a carnival performer

They’re the merry pranksters of EDC, dressed up as everything from psychedelic clowns to femme bots to giant wasps. They walk on stilts, they play touch football, they dance around, they make you smile…and then they do this. You’re welcome.

At the Discovery stage

There’s a cool little scene in here. You can get away from the crowds and have a little more room to show off your shuffle. And best of all, you’re catching some real-life up-and-comers: the winners of our Discovery DJ/producer competition. You heard it here first, folks.

Among the art

The grassy areas near cosmicMEADOW feature gorgeous art installations and are great places to chill, stretch out, and meet up with friends—or make new ones. Just look at these happy people. Who wouldn’t want to be their friends? Only someone who’s against happiness.

Through the maw of the bassCON monster

Hands-down the freakiest stage design at EDC—a giant Cyclops alien flanked by a parapet of tagged-up shipping containers—it’s an end-of-days spectacle perfectly suited to hardstyle. Here’s the view from inside.

From a helicopter

It’s one thing to be down in it, but seeing EDC from the sky gives you a true sense of just how massive this thing is. It’s like a small city, where the roads are paved with neon and raging all night is your job.

As Pasquale

He’s our Willy Wonka, the man with the plan, and even after all these years, he’s still hands-on with every aspect of Insomniac’s events. Keepin’ it real since ’93.

From the crowd at kineticFIELD

It just keeps getting better. This year’s stage design resembles a cathedral, complete with a pipe organ and stained-glass projections. Bookending owls keep watch over the crowd as they lose their minds with every pyro blast. It’s a downright religious experience.

Playing the sunrise set

Whoever plays this sacred slot has the honor of closing the night and ringing in the new day for those who’ve stuck it out to the end. We’re sweaty, we’re weary, but by god, we’re happy. Hello, tomorrow.
