Name: James
Age: 26
Hometown: Los Angeles
Occupation: Marketing director
Wide Awake Since: 2013
How would you describe EDC to someone who’s never been here before? It’s hard to describe EDC. It’s a gathering of people who have a real love and acceptance. It’s an experience unlike anything you can replicate—anywhere. It’s an escape from anything you have to deal with in life.
What’s the secret to happiness? To take everybody as they are. Learn to love them in all their differences, and learn to accept that they come from a different place than you and that they deal with their own struggles, just like you do.
What does your outfit say about you? It’s both a reflection of my personal hobbies and interests. I love dogs; I have two huskies, so I’m kinda here representing them a little bit. They’re very important to me.
Do you have a message for Father’s Day tomorrow? Happy Father’s Day, Dad. I love you so much. Thank you for everything you’ve done for our family and all the hard work that you put in. I’m sorry I missed Father’s Day this year, but I promise to take you out and celebrate soon.

Name: Rosa and Erick
Age: 31 (Rosa), 28 (Erick)
Hometown: Houston, TX (Rosa); Los Angeles (Erick)
Occupation:
Rosa: I design costumes. I made both of our outfits today.
Erick: Machinist.
Wide Awake Since: 2013 (Rosa); 2009 (Erick)
How would you describe EDC to someone who’s never been here before?
Rosa: It’s magical—everything from how it’s organized to the stages, the art, and all the things in between. Everyone really just needs to come here and have this experience for themselves so they can understand, because EDC is beautiful. You’ll fall in love.
Erick: It’s the place where you can come and be yourself, and no one will judge you for anything.
What’s the secret to happiness?
Rosa: Don’t pay attention to what people think. Be you; ignore them.
Erick: Try and coexist, no matter what. Don’t listen to people, whatever they say. Some people might not want your happiness, so it’s important to follow your gut.
What does your outfit say about you?
Rosa: That I like to sparkle.
Erick: It screams Rosa. She made this for me, and she’s about to be my wife.
Do you have a message for Father’s Day tomorrow?
Rosa: I love you, Dad. Happy Father’s Day. My parents live in Panama, and it’s been about a year since I’ve seen him.
Erick: Dad, I love you. Thank you for coming out to Vegas to visit us. Even though you couldn’t make it to EDC, you still came. Thank you, and happy Father’s Day.

Name: Terrell
Age: Old enough
Hometown: Los Angeles
Occupation: Actor
Wide Awake Since: 2014
How would you describe EDC to someone who’s never been here before? My friend who’s with me today, she’d never been. I told her there is nothing that can describe this. Once you walk in the door, like I did for the first time at this racetrack, it’s the most amazing thing. Nothing brings people together like this—not religion or politics or anything.
What’s the secret to happiness? Other people. I’ve had a lot of trials on the road to becoming the person I am. For me, being happy is seeing other people not having to go through the things I went through, and to be able to help them and share my story with them.
What does your outfit say about you? I’m extraordinary!
Do you have a message for Father’s Day tomorrow? My mom was 10 years old when she had me. She was raped by my dad, who was from the same family. I’ve become this guy who’s worked with everyone from Quincy Jones to Michael Jackson to Tyler Perry, and now I’m on Empire. Before, it was something I was embarrassed about, but it has become a story I’m able to share with other people and let them know they can become something no matter where they’re from. Sometimes the things that happen to you build character.

Name: Amanda

Occupation: Graphic designer
Wide Awake Since: 2011 (fourth EDC)
How would you describe EDC to someone who’s never been here before? It’s life-changing. It’s something everyone should experience at least once in their life.
What’s the secret to happiness? Good music and a good person to share it with. I came here yesterday by myself. My boyfriend wasn’t here, and I was just sad the whole time, because I couldn’t share the experience with him. But he’s here today!
What does your outfit say about you? That I can throw things together well last-minute.
Do you have a message for Father’s Day tomorrow? Ahhh, I’m sorry I’ve spent every Father’s Day at EDC. But thank you for loving me still!

What’s the secret to happiness? Experiencing things I really love, like coming to EDC (laughs).
What does your outfit say about you? My outfit says that wherever the wind blows, I blow with it.
Do you have a message for Father’s Day tomorrow? “I’m sorry I’m not with you right now.” But he gets it. He understands what this means to me.

Name: Jennifer
Age: 23
Hometown: Detroit, MI
Occupation: Student (environmental science major)
Wide Awake Since: 2012
How would you describe EDC to someone who’s never been here before? The city of lights. Last night, walking in and seeing all of the lights was the most amazing thing—just seeing everyone with positive vibes.
What’s the secret to happiness? Don’t judge others, and especially don’t judge yourself. Make sure you are very self-confident; you can’t be happy if you’re not happy with yourself.
What does your outfit say about you? It makes me feel like a special unicorn—very sparkly.
Do you have a message for Father’s Day tomorrow? My boyfriend is a father, and my dad, obviously. I just want to say that I love them very much… and they kick ass. So, keep working super hard to make your children happy.

What does your outfit say about you? Amazing. I feel like Buzz Lightyear [laughs].
Do you have a message for Father’s Day tomorrow? I’m very grateful for my father. He has taught me to be who I am and how I see life. I feel like everyone should be thanking their fathers, definitely.

What’s the secret to happiness?
Ricardo: Be true to yourself.
Freddie: Yes, feel happy with yourself.
What does your outfit say about you?
Ricardo: That I’m happy.
Freddie: I’m very sexy! (laughs)
Do you have a message for Father’s Day tomorrow?
Ricardo: I want to say, “Thank you for being there.”
Freddie: I don’t know my dad, but I wish the best for him.

Name: Kandi Kid Alec
Age: 26
Hometown: Yosemite National Park
Occupation: Hotel worker
Wide Awake Since: 2011
How would you describe EDC to someone who’s never been here before? A place where you can really be yourself, but also where you can meet people who will love you for who you are.
What’s the secret to happiness? Loving yourself. You have to love yourself before you can love anyone else.
What does your outfit say about you? I really like wearing something that’s shiny and bright. But more importantly, I always like to have my friendship bracelets—my kandi that I make for all of my friends who are here. That’s my favorite part about my outfit.
Do you have a message for Father’s Day tomorrow? My dad raised me to be nice and respectful. I couldn’t have a better dad—just having someone who’s there for you. I suggest if you don’t talk to your dad, or even if it’s like twice a year, you should call him up tomorrow, even if it’s for just two seconds, because it means a lot.

What does your outfit say about you? The vibe you shoot out is the vibe you attract, and I’m just trying to be a good-vibe person. Totally open, no judgment.
Do you have a message for Father’s Day tomorrow? Shout-out to my dad. It was tough at first, but my relationship with my dad has gotten better through the years. I’m happy he’s been there for me for the most important moments that I really needed him to be. I appreciate that.
