Hailing from Rotterdam, the Netherlands, Ferry Corsten’s lustrous career is exemplified by a passion for music that began as a hobby and spiralled into a full-blown profession. Today, as it was in the beginning, Corsten’s skills lie in his ability to coax the maximum emotional impact from electronic dance music of all genres, not just trance, but also progressive-house and electro. He remains and has always been ahead-of-his time, making music that becomes a template for others to follow.
From the outset, Corsten has been a prolific music-maker. With seven full-length studio albums under his belt and multiple Gold records to his name with songs that include ‘Punk,’ ‘Out Of The Blue,’ ‘Rock Your Body Rock,’ and other world-class hits like ‘Made Of Love’ featuring Betsie Larkin, ‘Hyper Love’ Feat. Nat Dunn and ‘Radio Crash’, Ferry’s output has always been plentiful and diverse. None more so is this true then with collaboration and remix work that has seen Ferry line-up alongside star names from the world of pop, rock, electronic and hip hop in Justin Bieber, U2, Moby, Faithless, The Killers, William Orbit, Duran Duran and Public Enemy.
From his New World Punx project with fellow trance pioneer Markus Schulz to his FULL ON live show concept, whereby he melds different styles of dance music by playing back-to-back sets with his cherry-picked roster of DJ/producer friends and a state-of-the-art stage setup, through to his hotly anticipated new live show and tour concept ‘Ferry Corsten presents Gouryella’. Ferry has continued to push and excite the world with his live and DJ show experiences. A statement that has been felt everywhere from festivals in Tomorrowland, Creamfields, Dance Valley, EDC Las Vegas, clubs such as Amnesia, Space, Ministry of Sound, Avalon, and iconic arenas like Amsterdam’s Heineken Music Hall, Allphones Arena in Sydney and New York City’s Madison Square Garden.
Striving always for excellence, this is an artist who is never satisfied with all that he’s accomplished, instead always pushing for the next exciting idea. For Ferry Corsten, the possibilities are limitless.
Casey Rasch is no stranger to the dance floors in Los Angeles. The native Angelino started listening to trance when he was 16 and within a year he was hitting up as many shows as he could. He was drawn to the sounds and was eager to learn more. He started by listening to weekly radio shows that introduced him to the various genres and producers of trance such as Simon Patterson, whose sounds on Night Vision Records and Reset Records intrigued him to explore more into the labels. He was also inspired by sounds of Jon O’bir, Activa and Tom Colontonio which led him to listen intently to Vandit Record releases.
Casey Rasch aggressively seeks his own sounds through his music. His debut original “Go” from Pharmacy Records turned quite a few heads in November of 2013 which included the boss of Pharmacy, Christopher Lawrence. Pharmacy spoke highly of his debut as, “Go, like Casey Rasch, defies any genre pigeon holing producing Tech, Psy and Trance.” This success has led him to officially remix for giants and legends in the scene including John Askew, John 00 Fleming, Christopher Lawrence, Lisa Lashes, and Federation. His tracks have been supported by the big names in the industry to include Aly & Fila, Simon Patterson, Bryan Kearney, Indecent Noise, Paul van Dyk, Nick Sentience, Jordan Suckley, Mark Sherry, Liam Wilson, James Dymond, Ben Lost, Thomas Datt, and many more. They have also been recognized on the Beatport Trance and Psy-trance Top 100 charts as well as top 10 in the Trackitdown Trance chart. Oberon, the label manager and head A&R for Discover Dark, named Casey Rasch the Best Remixer for 2014 stating, “I love Casey’s work, he always comes up with something new and interesting and he can produce psy and tech trance to a very high quality.” Pharmacy Music also followed up on that statement. “Casey Rasch is undoubtedly the go to man for remixes,” they stated. “Having done remixes for John Askew, John oo Fleming, Lisa Lashes and label boss Christopher Lawrence, it’s no wonder that Oberon, DJ producer and label manager at Discover Dark, picked Casey as his Best Remixer of 2014. We couldn’t agree more.” After releasing 2 originals and 14 remixes in 2014, Casey Rasch has been building his arsenal with more originals and collaborations to be released in the near future.
His talent to search, recognize, and discover sound had been acknowledged while he took on several different positions from being a Junior A&R to the Head A&R and Director of various trance based labels. However, with new influences grabbing his interest, he had a vision for a label that was not restricted to a specific genre but the only commitment being to the quality of the music. In January 2015, he announced his own label: UNRSTRCTD Recordings. This record label is a trance based label but sees no limits on the musical possibilities and is founded on the simple philosophy of pushing the boundaries to create quality music.
Since his professional start as a DJ in early 2014, he has shared the decks with Christopher Lawrence, Ronski Speed, Mark Sixma, Ben Nicky, Jordan Suckley, Arctic Moon, Will Atkinson, Thomas Datt, Liam Wilson, Magnus, Brian Flinn, and Coming Soon, just to name a few. His sets are versatile with everything from techno and deep/progressive house to uplifting/tech/psy trance, taking the crowd on diverse journeys. With his growing popularity and new residency at the world-class venue Exchange LA, he will undoubtedly be seen at more shows and events all over the map.
Whether Casey Rasch is on the dance floor, in the studio, or on the decks, he’s constantly got his ears and mind racing for the sound that represents quality music. The fact that all of the above releases and events happened within only a 3 year time period is no coincidence. His vision is shared by many in the scene and his ambition sees no limits. Dedicated and passionate about the music, he stops at nothing and will not take no for an answer.
Fis Shkreli and his family left war-torn Kosovo and arrived in The Bronx, NY in 1991. He learned English almost entirely by watching cartoons since his family didn’t have access to a computer and his parents didn’t speak English. His interest in sound design started when his father gave him a second-hand Casio synth from a consignment shop in Brooklyn. While playing it he discovered that when the batteries ran low it would cause inconsistencies in the pitch and time. So, he began recording sound bytes off a portable recorder that his Dad used as a reporter on the Voice of America channel. It is from these first moments of youthful experimentation that Fis continues to draw his passion and vision. In his own words:
“In many ways, that’s what I want Alastor to be: a manufactured artist that is always running on a never-ending charge of low-batteries. That’s the kind of scenario that forces you to harness any and every energy you’ve got for soul-driven performance.”
Fis is an entirely self taught talent, with no formal musical training; however, he has spent nearly 10 hours a day since 2002 honing his strengths as a producer. What once may have been considered a weakness, an “untrained ear,” has become his greatest asset. Nothing else sounds like Alastor. He has always been obsessed with sonic science of what he describes as, “sounds that shimmer or may sound glittery. I focus on the crisp frequencies above 20kHz.” Currently, he’s exploring organic sounds and how they can subtly support generic, EDM synths. He also is an expert in instrumental experimentation. For example he can freely mix harpsichords with a drone from an electric guitar then run it through one of his Twisted Tools ensembles.
Alastor is not simply an identity for the stage; instead it is a constantly evolving self-consciousness concept. It all starts by presenting the idea that a sound can be increasingly recognizable. Alastor is dedicated to music that is aware of its own existence and the affirmation of the discovered life in the listener. Fis utilizes the sound design skill set he has been perfecting since the age of seven to give Alastor, “strict guidelines” so that sounds can move fluidly across the EDM spectrum. He is particularly focused on the drums, percussion, and FX that compose his music. Not one afraid to resample and recycle, he uses sounds from previous projects to propel his music to the next level. His producer tool belt includes, but is not limited to Composer’s Desktop Project, Max/MSP, Reaktor, GRM Tools, MetaSynth, Cecilia4, and SoundGrain.
